Ohh, the joys of homeownership. Here in doldrums of michigan, we’ve recently gone through a cycle of rain, snow, sleet, snow, rain. Yesterday we had a big warm up. Well regrettably I hadn’t shovelled the back of my driveway for sometime and the melt found its way into my basement. Two hours and $30 dollars later (flat shovel), I had all the snow/ice and about 5 gallons of water moved away from the house. We’ll just have to wait and see if my work was worth it. All of this was due to an ineffective drainspout, which i have now fitted with one of my garden drains which extend about 4 feet and is flexible.

So I decided to finally go and do some shopping for Christmas on friday. I went to Somerset (the second time I’ve ever been there) and it was crazy. Thinking I would be ok going around 1pm I was met with police directing traffic, overflowing parking, valet shut down and about 2 million angry shoppers. I think I’m going to start looking for presents for next year, next weekend.

Sitting in my local Caribou Coffee shop, drinking a large caramel hi-rise I get the chance to listen into some of the interesting conversations that are occuring around me. The small group of older than middle-aged men (golden years?) are talking about what makes someone a good Christian. Now they are a small group of 5 people but do they need to be observant of what they are talking about around others in a public place? Now I was raised catholic and have nothing against being religious, but I’m not too keen on the idea of preaching in public. Now yes, they are in a private conversation, but they are in the middle of the coffee shop, center of attention and it has been heated at times. It is an interesting conversation though, from what I can see highly philosophical.
Ooh and by the way it snowed outside, about a foot. So there are also the random snowball fights occuring by all ages happening. The occasional snow plow drives by, but the huge pile up of snow in the median of the street says otherwise that they are doing more than an adequate job. What I havent seen though in years are kids helping out neighbors shovel snow. I can remember when I was younger that my mom would make me go outside and shovel my older neighbors driveway. Yea it was a pain, but she said I would feel better later in life when I understand just how hard it is to labor like that when you are older. I mean i’m only 26 years old now but I can tell i’m going to be so sore tomorrow.
Tasers and your local police department seem to be the newest couple on the news scene lately. With many victims being tasered to death by police officers who believe that their less-than lethal is just that. How less than lethal can a taser be if it causes death? Maybe my quoting is wrong, maybe its less lethal or less likely to die if you were shot. Either way the use of tasers as a form of criminal control seems to be way out of hand. There must be some other form of restraint that can be used. Otherwise the fear of police is going to go out of control with the rampant use of these devices.
As of 5:13pm Technorati has 10,877 related posts to taser.
What will 2008 be the year of? Innovation? War? Peace? Eco-Awareness? What ever it is I hope that it doesnt deal with the usual bickering that our country’s political leaders have been doing for the last 8 years. 2008 I believe will be the year that people my age will finally take part in our political process. Were much more informed now and we’ll actually have candidates to choose from that are actually different and that offer change. I think thats the biggest thing. 2008 year of change.
So I never thought i would do it, but i did. I’ve switch. No more pc for me, well at home that is. I broke down and bought a mac. So far so good. Startup and running seems to be fairly easy. Installation of programs seem also very easy. I think once i start to load my photos and other applications onto it will i start to see how much i like it. But i have to say that its been the easiest machine i’ve worked with so far.

With all my email accounts that I have I spend most of the time just deleting all the spam that my email filters dont catch. Which is usually around 200 or so. Not very productive. So I’m trying out alternatives to using my standard email pop3 account and have my email being forwarded to my gmail account. So far so good. I’ve had 3 spam emails and the rest have been caught by gmail. I think a few more tweaks within the UI and I should be spam free and able to see mail that is really the important emails.

If anyone is looking for a cat as a pet I have one. His name is Boo, he’s not scary. He’s very affectionate and will follow you everywhere. Likes to play and is alittle over a year old.

I need to get another post out and I’m having a hard time just trying to get a title even picked. Kind of running into a writing block. So i’m sitting at home right now waiting for my apartments maintainence people to get here to see if they can fix a leak in my ceiling. I wonder how this could be happening when they just put a new roof on our apartment building this past fall. Although they did create a huge mess in doing so with nails and shingles in trees and on balconies. It was bad, also the fact that they were just really loud about it.
