Snow Scrapers

snow scrapperSince this is the time of heavy snowfalls and ice accumulations, i feel like ranting a little bit about how much snow scrapers suck. They’re terrible, they’re cheaply made and they are also needed. My own scaper that i’ve had for years has just decided that it is time for it to destruct, and at the worst possible time too. A week back we got some pretty good snow showers which then was followed by some freezing temperatures, which caused the snow on my car to freeze and become an inch thick layer of ice, hidden by the snow. So the following morning while getting ready to leave I get out my scaper and start to chip off the ice from my windshield and on the first stroke my scraper decides to bust into about 10 small pieces, leaving me with about 1 inch of scraping plastic left. You could probably imagine the words that came out of my mouth, everything from getting pissed off at the scraper to the snow hiding the ice to the ice itself. If they made scrapers that were much more durable and less prone to breakage I wouldnt be having this little rant, but since I am, I might as well offer some suggestions to the makers of these scrapers.

  • Use some sort of stronger plastic material
  • Test them out in actual conditons
  • Dont just make the handles straight so when we forget to wear our gloves that we dont get ice burn from the snow or ice while were scraping
  • umm…Make some sort of heated scraper to melt the ice while your scraping (and yes i know to turn my car on to heat the windows)
